All training starts with a private initial consultation with dog behavior expert, Betsy Gunter. This initial consultation usually lasts 2 hours and takes place at your home unless another location is determined. First, there is a very thorough discussion of all of your dog’s issues as well as your goals for training. Then Betsy will evaluate your dog and the issues or problem behaviors. This evaluation helps us to discover the root causes of the issues, so that we can then better address them. Betsy will then develop a strategy for training based on each individual case. She will teach you foundational training exercises and show you how to address the issues.
Initial Consultation
She will also go over specific recommendations and homework exercises for you to work on. The initial consultation is extremely thorough and she makes sure all of your questions are answered. Progress is almost always made during the initial consultation; however, it is always recommended to continue with follow up sessions to help you reach all of your training goals.
Follow Up Sessions:
Follow up sessions are typically 1-1.5 hours and are designed to help you to continue making progress with training. They are based on your dog’s issues, progress, and whatever you are currently struggling with. The location for follow up sessions will be decided based on the needs of each individual client. These sessions are designed to evaluate your progress and help you to continue working to achieve your training goals.
Virtual Sessions:
Virtual sessions are offered for anyone out of the Dallas area or anyone unable to be seen in person. Betsy will help you with any behavioral concerns and help problem solve to come up with training strategies to help your dog. During this process she will also teach you some of the fundamental training exercises by showing you with her own dog or a dog in for training. Then she will observe you and guide you with very detailed direction. She will help develop a plan for training and give you lots of homework as well. She may have you send in videos and also send you videos to help keep you on track as you practice. A lot of progress can be made virtually and it is a great way for you to learn how to help your dog.
Board and Train Program:
This is an intensive program designed to help clients that are struggling with behavior issues or for those clients that need extra help in getting their dog further in training. This program is 2-3 weeks. Betsy will work with your dog in her home multiple times a day creating a very structured boot camp like experience. She will give you updates, photos, and include you in a few short virtual sessions each week so that you are involved in the training process. She also includes a private session with you mid-way through training. And a take home session to help set you up for success when your dog comes home. After going home, two follow up sessions are included to make sure you are on track and keep up with everything. Spots are limited and an initial consultation is required to determine if this program is a good fit for your dog.
Mentorship Program:
This program is for dog trainers, people interested in becoming a trainer, or anyone who just wants to learn more about dog behavior and training. You will get the opportunity to shadow Betsy and see how she works with clients and their dogs. Or you can have her come along and help you with your clients or difficult cases and learn from her at the same time. This program can be tailored based on what you are looking to learn. Betsy really enjoys working with other trainers and helping them to be successful so that more dogs and people can be helped.
